Kristie Riviere of Donaldsonville Primary in Louisiana and Marsha Lewis of Kenansville Elementary in North Carolina are the winners of the free half-day author visit with children’s author Timothy A. Weeks.
Their names were drawn from attendees of the 24th Southeast IRA (International Reading Association) Regional Conference, held November 29th and 30th at the Hilton New Orleans Riverside. Over 150 conference attendees registered at the Foolosophy Media exhibition booth for the free author visit.
“There were so many names we split them into two groups,” explains children’s author Timothy A. Weeks, “one from Louisiana, where the majority of the participants teach, and one from all the rest of the US and Canada. Then we drew names from both hats. We’ve had our best year ever and were in the Christmas mood. So congratulations to these deserving teachers.”
Riviere teaches first grade Donaldsonville Primary, which is part of the Ascension Parish Public School District. Lewis teaches at Kenansville Elementary, which is in the Duplin County School System.
Weeks’ author visit presentations involve storytelling with projected illustrations, plenty of student participation and a cast net demonstration. Weeks also shows children how the unique illustrations are made using his digital photos of the Gulf Coast and his mother’s paintings, which he refers to as “mullet montages.”
